Recent Revisions

-          0015X November 4, 2004

1.      Added “Re-Sort” button to resort queue

2.      Added page header info in generated web page

-          0014X October 29, 2004

1.      Improved performance significantly

2.      Added “traffic light” to indicate Bayes classification of image. Red means “bad” Green means “good”. The better trained the classifier is, the more accurate this will be (future versions will automatically keep/discard photos when it’s trained well enough)

3.      “Preview” option now works in Web Site Builder

4.      Fixed algorithm so it generally finds 2X to 3X more images than last release. (A bug was causing it to skip over valid images)

-          0013X Internal

-          0012X Added “Ignore links containing these string” option; fixed XSL templates

-          0011X Fixed “Crash on Exit” if you press stop while in Pause mode (sorry!)

-          0010X Web Site Builder added (click on the guy with the toolbox)

Please read all the notes and FAQ below, before running the program.

Notes:

·         This software has a number of rough edges

·         The feature for getting URLs to scan from the browser history only works for Internet Explorer

·         Please select all the application panels and familiarize yourself with the current set of options before starting your first search.

·         Even though you can seemingly change options and settings during the download, most of them will have no effect until another download is started.

·         The current release has no provision for cleaning up the database directory or the temp images. You may want to periodically clean them out yourself.

·         Before you start a download, examine all the options on all the tabs and make sure they’re set the way you want them

Frequently asked questions:

            Q. How can I tell where the images in my saved directory came from?

A. Right click on the file (in Microsoft Windows XP) and look at the Properties. The Title of the file is set to the URL where it came from, and the Description has the referring page

            Q. How can I tell what’s going on during a download

A.    After starting a search, click on the “Intelligence” tab and watch the salmon-colored “Status” panel for # pages searched and # of images found.

You can also choose the “Preview” tab and watch images come in. It may take a while for the first images to show up, depending on your search.

            Q. Help! It crashed!

A. Tell us what you were doing (send reports to skipintro (at) gmail [dot] com with “BUG REPORT” in the subject). If there was a stack trace, copy+paste it in the email. Folks who send us bug reports get early access to future releases.

Q. Where can I discuss bugs and features?

A. Post comments to this Blog. We will check it periodically

            Q. I accidentally pressed “Stop”! How do I restart my search?

             A. Select the “Locations” panel, and select “Saved Search” under Search From. Choose the name that you saved the search under and press “play”

             Q. If I select a Google search from my browser history as a starting point, what happens?

A. CallipygianGrab2.0 will follow the links from the search page, not try to spider Google. Also, the search will CONTINUE until there are no more search results. If you did a search with a lot of search results, it may take a “while” before the software starts downloading.

          Q. I tried to re-scan a site, and the download finishes very fast, without downloading anything. Why?

          A. The software won’t scan a page that it’s already scanned within a recent time period. See the Options tab for “Ignore sites scanned less that n days ago.”

(We realize we need a way of clearing the database, and / or making this hours or “since last scan”)

            Q. How do I clear the database?

             A. Right now, just delete the directory and all the files that you put the database in. (This directory will appear under “Options -> Directories: DBDirectory”)

            Q. Where are you storing the “Saved Search” and preferences files?

          A. Under \Documents And Settings\<your user name>\Application Data\CallipygianGrab

            Q. When will you release a Macintosh Version? A Linux Version?

A.. Never. Please don’t hold your breath. We’re working on a FreeBSD version.

            Q. The image in the preview screen is cropped

A. It follows the aspect of the window, not the image. But you can mouse-down and drag the image around in the viewport.

            Q. What are those directories it asks for when it’s run the first time?

A.    The program needs three directories.

1.      Temp File Storage is where images go before you’ve reviewed them

2.      Save File Storage is where reviewed and accepted images go (unless you change this per-search)

3.      Database is where the program’s database (of viewed sites, and neural network/Bayesian data) goes

All three of these directories must be DIFFERENT and must EXIST. If they don’t and you press “OK” the dialog won’t go away

            Q. Help! It uses up 100% of my CPU

             A. Go to the Intelligence -> threading panel and reduce the number of threads. (Try 3).    And check “Set Automatically” which will try to adjust it automatically.
