Amorphophallus titanium

 

Also known as “Titan Arum”  Bunga Bangkai” or simply “Corpse flower" (because it smells like rotting flesh—to attract the carrion flies that pollinate it).

 

We were lucky enough to be at Disney’s Animal Kingdom when a Corpse Flower decided to bloom. The bloom typically lasts for one day before the flower falls apart, and it takes several years to produce one bloom. You can read more about it at the Huntington Library web site.

 

As usual, Robert Swirsky took several 3D stereo pictures of this magnificent and smelly flower. The anaglyph photos require red/cyan glasses to view (red over left eye).
